Diane Spears art course gets an A+ from me!
I had the opportunity to review both the K-8 CD and Highscool level CD. produced by Diane Spears .I am now currently teaching from both to a co-op. Every week I teach the highschool level and twice a month I teach the elementary students.
This course could be used for a traditional classroom, private art teacher or homeschool Mom. Additionally, the highschool level can easily be read independently by a homeschool student .
Both curriculums incorporate Biblical principles and verses throughout the lessons. The overview and purpose of the curriculum is very clear. There are even tests and quizzes. The highschool course can be taken for credits.
Both levels are very meaty. The highschool level can be used with children younger than highschool. In my current class there are children as young as 10. There is some overlap in activities between the 2 courses. I highly recommend either (or both) levels, though some 8th graders might not enjoy the younger level. When comparing this program to other art curriculums, I beleive Spears Art to be the best value and is my new favorite art curriculum.
There are a variety of purchasing options on the site www.spearsartstudio. The CDs I tested are K-8 for $39.95 and Highschool level for $29.95 . To me art is as essentail as the 3 Rs to have a balanced homeschool. I think it should be encouraged and taught from the youngest ages. Diane even makes the instructor's job easier by listing the materials needed by semester and her site links to a place to buy most of the supplies online at low prices. You could stretch this program out into a couple years or pick and choose projects.
