Happy New Year!
We've had a great holiday season this year! It was relaxed and low-key, for us, and lots of fun. Antonio turned 18 this December, and had a bunch of friends over to celebrate with games, pizza, and Prince Caspian. It's good to see him growing and maturing!
We celebrate Christmas as Jesus' birthday, and don't exchange presents on the 25th. We did make a cake, but didn't make it over to help at the rescue mission this year. We spent our extra time in snowflake production, as our family and friends know by receiving one. The kids really got into making those, and had a great time coming up with all sorts of creative designs! We did manage to get our cards out before Christmas this year, remarkably enough.
The week before Christmas, the oldest son of our pastor was married. We made the trip to visit our former youth group / Sunday school pupil, and enjoyed the nice wedding. Speaking of travelling, Krista also spent a couple days visiting a high-school friend in Indiana.
We stayed out at a friend's house on New Year's Eve, but Victoria and David couldn't quite last the night. Even though Victoria woke up for the trip home, she very wisely didn't want to open presents until the morning (often we'll open them at midnight of the first). After being up so late, the kids didn't get up and ready to open gifts until a late 8:30. Krista's mom visited for a couple days at the beginning of the week, and brought lots of nice gifts for everybody, in addition to what Krista's dad had already sent up to us, and the few things we got for the kids this year.
So here we are in a new year, with new opportunities, and God-willing another year of growth and learning together as a family!

Merry Christmas!
We're enjoying the end of the year, and look forward to joyful times together this Christmas!
The fall is always busy for us, with 5 out of 8 birthdays in these last three months. Back in mid-October, Victoria celebrated her birthday for about a week with different events! The end of October and beginning of November see Carmen, David, and Felix turning a year older in quick succession. We had fun making a big deal of Carmen's 16th, taking her and some friends to a Broadway show and fancy dinner. Carmen's also excited about starting the process of getting braces, like many of her friends. She's still happy about it, because she doesn't have them on yet . . .

Summer Travels
We've had a busy, hot summer so far! This year's trip was to Ohio to visit Krista's grandparents. On our way up, we stopped by Krista's mom's place, and surprised her with getting Jim & Terra to come with their families for a little birthday party for her. We picked up Carmen from the Wilds, and headed up to Ohio, where we were glad to see Grandma and Grandpa doing well. Tricia and her family were also able to come down at the same time, so we got to see all of Krista's siblings in one weekend! On our way home, we stopped by for a repeat visit to the Creation Museum. To make all the travel a little more bearable, David made a bracket to attach a 19" screen for Wii and movies to keep the kids occupied.
Then, after a couple days at home, we drove to Daniel's home to meet up with his family and Papa and Meme. We enjoyed a classic hot July 4th concert with the Richmond Philharmonic and a choir, and then cooled off in the pool for a relaxing holiday. Good thing, because the next day David and Antonio went out for some rolling around in the dirt shooting paint at each other and our friends!
A couple birthday parties and a Pampered Chef party later, and family and friends visiting, and we survived the summer crunch!

Birthday and Bike Ride
Jacob enjoyed his birthday this year, growing up before our very eyes into a talkative and very curious 5-year-old. He and Victoria have been fascinated by the removable kitchen faucet, and recently discovered the great fun of spraying the ceiling with water. We enjoyed a beautiful spring this year, and took advantage of the nice weather to go to a (rainy) Durham Bulls baseball game and pick (and eat) this year's crop of strawberries. The whole family (tandem, trailer, and all) took a bike ride on Memorial Day, on some paved paths in the area.
Antonio decided now is the time to buy a big TV, after having enough of kids getting in the way of games and movies alike. So he bought a nice big plasma screen to hang on the wall for all to enjoy playing the Wii and watching movies on!

May Showers
It's been wonderfully rainy around here the last couple weeks, gradually eating away at the drought here in NC! The rain is great fun for the kids, who then get to go find worms, bugs, and frogs that show up in the back yard. The whole family took a trip at the beginning of last month, and stayed with some friends and visited with family, while David displayed his new church collaboration services at a conference.
Otherwise, life has been school, chores, and playing the Wii (Sports, Mario Party, Playground, DDR - what a workout!, and Mariokart), with an occasional break for a bike ride or trip to the NC Science Museum. David's parents brought some cool animal carvings from their recent trip to Ethiopia, too.

Krista's Surgery
This afternoon, Krista had a 3.5 hour surgery removing extensive endometriosis. She did well through the surgery, and the surgeon is pleased with how she did and amazed at what she's been living with.Read more about the remarkable technology used in her surgery, or even watch a video of a similar operation being performed by Dr. Boggess, Krista's surgeon!
The kids are at home with Krista's mom.
