Friday, February 3, 2006With Google's recent release of their Google Pack collection of free software, I thought I'd chime in with my recommendations:

• Firefox - better web browsing
  
• Cute PDF Writer - easy PDF creation
  
• Picasa - extraordinarly simple photos management
  
• Open Office - work with Word and Excel and more without spending hundreds
  
• AVG Antivirus - keep the viruses away
• Ad-Aware - clean up the junk

And, if you're not running Windows XP SP2,

• ZoneAlarm - essential firewall

If you use Microsoft Outlook (not Express),

• SpamBayes - intelligent anti-spam

Regardless of what email program you use now, consider

• Thunderbird - smart, easy, and fool-proof email
