"The fruit of the Spirit is . . . self-control." Galatians 5:22,23
Balance is a large part of the Christian life. The strict requirements of the law have to be tempered with the sensitivity of love; the harshness of accusatory truth must be transformed into constructive counsel; and the enjoyment of life must be reigned in with moderation.
Speech
Our words require the most attention, as they so easily get out of hand. Those famous extremes crop up in our speech: always and never. The Bible has some advice on why we should control our speech, and how:- Controlled speech is fruitful, instead of ruinous Pr 13:3
- Guarded speech prevents heartache Pr 21:23
- A tamed tongue reveals a whole character Jam 3:2
- God can help us control our speech, if we ask His help Ps 141:3
