Authority of the Name
- With prophets, it means speaking and doing on behalf of God, in doing what He wants and would do De 18:15-20; Jer 14:14-15,23:25,27:15,29:9,21,23; Mar 24:25
- In De 18:15-20, Moses describes that God will raise up another prophet and give him the words to say, in His Name
- With people, it means acting in the authority of the name (or pretending to) 1Sam 25:5, 2Ki 5:22
- With false Christs, it is an effort to deceive Mat 24:5, Mar 13:6, Luk 21:8, Act 19:13-16; 1Ki 13:18
- In Act 19:13-16 some Jews were trying to cast out evil spirits in Jesus' name, but they didn't really
- For example,
- Sending the kids to bear the message of what a parent wants done
- Sometimes the kids will "send" themselves with their desired message
Power of the Name
- With miracles, it gives great power Mar 16:17, Act 3:6,16,4:10,16:18
- In Act 4:5, Peter and the others caused great uproar by making man walk, in Jesus' name, though they were "uneducated and untrained"
- With asking, it will be done and given Joh 14:13-14, 16:23,24
- In Joh 16:23, ask the Father for anything in My Name, and He will give it to you
- With belief, it means everlasting life will be achieved Joh 20:31
- According to Joh 20:31, eternal life is impossible, but through faith in His Name, we can have it
- With gathering as Christians, it means Jesus will be there Mat 18:20
- In Mat 18:20 unexpected power is given to a group of believers, because Jesus promises that He will be there when 2 or 3 are gathered in His name
- For example,
- Praying for God's will in our adoption - in His Name!
- There is additional power in gathering to pray - in His Name!
- Preaching, singing, teaching, serving - in His Name!
Transformation of the Name
- With accepting children, it means humbly ministering to Jesus Himself Mat 18:5, Luk 9:48, Mar 9:41
- In Mat 18:5, the greatest have the least, and reach out in His Name to those who can do nothing in return, yet which counts the same as serving Jesus Himself
- With the Holy Spirit, He will bring peace by reminding us of what Jesus said Joh 14:26-27
- In John 14:26, the Holy Spirit brings heavenly (true) peace by teaching us and reminding us of all things that Jesus taught and said
- With the gospel, repentance for forgiveness of sins is proclaimed Luk 24:47
- In Luk 24.46, the desire of Jesus was to pay for our sins, rise in victory, and that we would offer that paid-for forgiveness to all the nations
- With thanks, it effects submission from being controlled by the spirit Eph 5:17-21
- According to Eph 5:20, our Spirit-filled lives should be thankful, taking our joyfulness in the Lord into subjection to one another
- For example,
- The transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly
